Rising Water
Last wednesday the literature class and I went to the arts centre, playhouse to see tim Winton's "rising water". This was an interesting play about 3 main characters who's life has no end. They've all got issues and it's as if they have come to the jetty to live and die. The three main characters baxter, jackie and coal are all hiding from there past lives. They are all ashamed of something And there all hiding from bad lives or things they are ashames of.
There three stories are revealed due too the coming of a pom called dee. She brings out the storys in them.
In my opinion i feel the play was not intesting. I dont know whether it was because of my immaturity or age that i didnt enjoy it but it was just not a play that i would willingly choose to go and watch

HAKUNA MATATA
The song is based on Timon and Pumbaa's common catchphrase in the movie, Hakuna matata, which is a Swahili phrase. The two main comedy characters in the film, (Timon and Pumbaa), talking about moving on from their troubled past and forgetting their worries. The song also provides a back story for Pumbaa, explaining that he was ostracized from animal society for his excessive flatulence.
Hakuna matata is a Swahili phrase that is frequently translated as "no worries". In bonus features of The Lion King Special Edition DVD, the film's production team claims that it picked up the term from a tour guide while on safari in Tanzania. It was then developed into an ideology that, along with the seemingly antithetical value of duty to the monarchy, is central to the moral content of the film.
To me this song and its lyrics are so important. Life is stressful and chaotic and so much happens that we never just stop and take time out to have fun. People always stress and are always worried about life and this song and the meaning of Hakuna Matata is to just forget everything and not to worry as much as we usually would. Sometimes in life there are situations where people need to think of Hakuna Matata
They're not your husband
This story by Raymond Carver is a story with a lesson that can be learned by all. Its a sad story about a man who tells his wife shes fat leading her to go on a diet which almost makes her sick. It all starts when someone tell the woman she has a fat bottom and the husband didnt like that others were calling his wife fat and wanted her to loose weight.
The language used is very offensive and shows that this man obviously had no respect for his wife. After the wife has been on aheavy diet and hardly eaten for a few months the wife becomes sickly skinny and the husband appears to be proud of what his accomplished and i feel that he has accomplished nothing because he has pretty much degraded his wife and made her feel insecure about her looks. After his so called "accomplishment" he replies with the remark of "What do you think of that?"
This is disgusting because woman are always degraded and for a husband to say this to his wife is awful. The story was very good and its great to see a story written with a strong message like this and it was enjoyabl as well.

The Phantom of the Opera
My favorite movie of all time would have to be The phantom of the opera and my favorite scene is the masquarade ball scene.
This is my favorite scene as its so colourful and as the movie is very sad and has an eerie feel to it this scene brightens the movie up with a cheerful song and colour and a cast full of happiness and celebration.
The music in this scene is very loud and creates a happier side to the characters. Its also a celebration for the owners of this theatre who have just opened a new show and want to celebrate the opening with all of there cast and crew and cloest family and friends. Unfortunantly a cruel encounter from the Phantom himself makes everyone scared and question there celbrations.
The masquarade ball has a lot of signiicance in not only this movie but in the times back then. Masquarade balls were very popular and a place were men a women would meet and dance and possibly encounter a life partner. It has relevance in this film as the phantom always wears a mask due to his disease and everyone else wears masks in celebration.
The whole scene is colourful and bright and i love this scene for the music and the costumes as its all colourful and enjoyable.
I rate this movie 5 stars and the scene about 4.5 stars.

Psycho - Film Review
Psycho is a thrilling and scary movie directed by Alfred Hitchcock which is a 1960 classic. You get with hit with the feeling of the theme of the movie as soon as it started with the music and the view of the buildings.
Norman had created an illusion for himself that his mother was not dead. He remained faithful to his mother years after her passing, which is the compelled him to kill Marion Crane. The shower scene is a key feature of the film. There is a variety of angles the scene was shot. She is brutally stabbed by, what seemed to be, an old woman in a long dress. Norman arrives too late, but like the dutiful son he carefully cleans the room and disposes of the body and the evidence in the swamp.
The shower scene of her death is famous in the world of horror movies. This would have been the very first horror film created. This motion picture was the core of all modern horror films. Many ideas involved with the horror industry were sprung from this film. It was also very uncommon, in the time this was filmed, for the main character to die in the middle of the film. Alfred Hitchcock's ideas were considered very original and not fully accepted by viewers at the time, but eventually became a hit.
After this movie coming out it was the base for all modern horror movies and most of the ideas from this have been portrayed through other movies.
I enjoyed this movie thouroughly and it obviously did the trick for scare factor as i was scared to shower the night after we watched this film.

Super man and Paula browns new snowsuit
The language used in the girls bedroom Describes how it's her bedroom where she can dream of superman and flying with him. A girls bedroom is always precious to her and it's a place where she can think and look out her window to the "lights ofboston that blazed and blinked far off across the darkening water" the girl gets to see the real would but in her bedroom she can live in her imaginary fixation of superman being wi her.
The language used to describe the school tells us that the school is the richest or most prestige school according to it's location. The author describes the school to be red bricked and basic as if it just fits in to the buildings around it and isn't anything dance but it's still school.
Paula brownes house is described as a place where all the children have fun and play together. I envision it as a very rich house as Paula Browne comes from a rick family. I envision a big White mansion when they describe her house and the way she acts all stuck up that she is a well of girl who comes from a house which gives her everything
I loved is story as it showed how children can be so defensive ANC always play the blame game. It really represents children and life in general. The thing I don't like about it is the character of Paula Browne and how she is awful to the girl. I love e naivety of the girl and how she has her imagination of superman. I love the connection between superman and her real life suer hero.
